A bold commitment

We want everything Enterprise touches to be green by 2013. We have the proof that applying our Enterprise Green Communities Criteria works, and we are poised to take this initiative to the next level. Our $4 billion commitment is one of the largest private investments in green affordable housing ever made in this country.

A National Commitment

Our work is already underway:

  • We will produce or preserve 75,000 green homes, commercial and community buildings over the next five years.
  • New green retrofit financing tools will help developers to retrofit their multifamily properties with energy- and water-savings capital purchases.
  • We have committed our $95 million New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) allocation to target green deals
  • We are purchasing carbon offsets from green affordable housing developers by raising charitable contributions through our innovative Green Communities Offset Fund.
  • Enterprise Homes, one of the largest developers in the mid-Atlantic, is already building 100 percent to the Enterprise Green Communities Criteria.

Working in local markets for greater impact

Across America, our green work is gaining momentum.

  • Baltimore: Already more than $43 million invested to build nearly 800 green affordable homes.
  • Gulf Coast: Already more than $20 million invested to build 132 green affordable homes.
  • Los Angeles: Already more than $92 million invested to build more than 2,000 green affordable homes.
  • New York City: Already more than $107 million invested to build nearly 2,000 green affordable homes

Track our Progress:

"Building green is not just a personal and organizational responsibility; it's an enormous opportunity to do what we do better, more responsibly, with greater effect. And as every year passes, we're going to wish we had done more of it, sooner."

Tom Fulton President, Family Housing Fund
